This is just one version of a very popular magic card trick known as “forcing a card”. It tricks the mind and because it is basic to perform and the effects are so wonderful it is highly admired by magicians. A trick so believable that a child could be comfortable attempting it.
Artillery:
All that is needed is a deck of cards, any kind or size will do.
For starters:
For starters choose a single card and that will be the one you want your audience to choose. They will think the choice is theirs to make and that they have randomly chosen a card but it will be the one you decided to use. It is important to remember which card you choose. That is really the only skill involved in this trick. In reality remembering which card is chose earlier is the hardest part of the trick too. Place your chosen card on the top of the deck.
This is the first step:
Someone must select a number between five and ten so group together some people and ask a single person. The number they choose is of no consequence. It could be, eight, five, nine, ten, seven or six. Face the cards down on the table and keep them that way. After hearing their choice you reply “Now I need you to count to ten by using these cards. Here, I will show you how.” So now they have been told this and you once again hold the deck from them, place the first card down and count by starting with the number they chose. For instance, if they picked the number seven you would take the top card and lay it face down on the table saying, “Seven”. Now the remainder of the cards will be dealt out while you count them continuing from the first card for instance, “eight, nine and ten.” Remember the forced card’ which you chose at the start well this card is now on the top of the deck on the table.
Keeping the cards face down, pick up the group of cards you have counted and put them on the top of the deck. Give the audience member the deck of cards and ask them to count to ten while going through them. Tell them to lay out each card while they count. Now explain how the tenth card is the one they chose but do not let them show you what it is. Ask them to show it to their friends but don’t let you see it.
The Grand Finale:
Let them see that you are concentrating very hard on thinking of their card and you will let them know what it is. When you are done pretending you have psychic powers you turn to them and proclaim, “the card you have is a” The one you chose as a forced card’ is the card they have chosen and the one on top of the deck. “You have in your hands the Ace of Diamonds”, is what you would say if the Ace of Diamonds was the forced card’ that you chose. Obviously this card is the one they are holding. They have no idea the card they choose was the one you made them choose. It will amaze them.
