. Rc nitros that are built for on road use have a more rigid suspension system and are made for smooth surfaces such as parking lots and driveways. They are not designed for rugged terrain and jumping or climbing. Off road vehicles are equipped with better suspension systems and are made for rough terrain and jumping or climbing.
If you find that you enjoy this hobby enough you will want a nitro fueled vehicle. These are more complex to work with but they are faster and more dependable than the electric vehicles. Rc nitros run on a mix of nitro methane, methanol and oil which can be messy to work with. You can get them in either the on road version or the off road version. So make sure you know where you will be running them before picking out your vehicle!
If you choose a hobby grade vehicle there are some choices you will need to make. You need to decide if you want one that runs on batteries or fuel. The electric ones have motors that are run by rechargeable batteries; the advantage to these vehicles is there is no fuel to mess with. You can get them with either a brushless motor or a motor with brushes. Electric vehicles can be of the off road type or the on road type. They are available in either car or truck styles. These are a good choice for the novice since they require less maintenance than the fuel run vehicles.
When choosing the kind of radio controlled vehicle to purchase there are a few things to take into consideration. First, if it is for a child a toy grade vehicle is often the better choice as these are less expensive and easier to control. These can be purchased at many stores in the toy department. If you are not sure whether you will enjoy this hobby or not you might want to try a toy one first.
